Jingdezhen
The Porcelain Capital of the World
For over 1,700 years, Jingdezhen has been the heart of Chinese porcelain. Imperial kilns supplied the Forbidden City for centuries. Today, master ceramicists here create everything from classical blue-and-white to contemporary studio pieces.
Craft Heritage
Jingdezhen porcelain has been continuously produced since the Han Dynasty (206 BCE - 220 CE), reaching its peak during the Ming and Qing dynasties when imperial kilns supplied the court. The kaolin clay from local Mount Gaoling gave the world the very name "kaolin" used in ceramics today.
Why Authentic
Authentic Jingdezhen porcelain has four qualities: white as jade, thin as paper, sound like a chime, and lustrous as a mirror. The unique high-temperature firing (1,300ยฐC+) cannot be replicated outside this region's clay and water composition.
Visit During Your Journey
Many of our Imperial Bespoke and Signature itineraries can include a guided studio visit in Jingdezhen, where you meet ceramicists at their wheels and select pieces directly.
